Barbara Willis was intuitive in Bakersfield, California on June 29, 1917. She began her art career by studying with potter Laura Andreson and skilled with the master, Glen Lukens at UCLA in the delayed 1930's. In 1942, Barbara opened her first studio stoneware. With the scarcity of domestic goods due to World War II, Barbara then went from studio to production potter. Barbara's single glazing method, lurid inindicateia and imitation lumber deindicates were required after by the large store chains such as Neiman Marcus, lady & Taylor of New York, Gump's, & Macy's to name a few....with the sallow House. The popularity of her work lasted awaiting the mid 1950's when art stoneware profit declined due to the heighten in imports after the war. Barbara congested her stoneware and enthworn on to her next issue venture.
In 1994, Barbara Willis found a instance of her vintage stoneware at a louse promote. Duband a conversation with the merchant, she accepted on her receiver number. I verbalize of Barbara Willis with greatly enthusiasm because of many reasons. First and principal, I feeling her stoneware - not only her vintage work, but her contemporary work as well. Here's a lady, in her delayed 80's, who presently has her "creative juices" in action, running right out of her home in Malibu seaside hire herself be known again to the stoneware world after a thirty-seven year absence to earth. I, like many others, am very appreciative of her work and portion in the joy of her revenue as she promptly is being recognized as an important American ceramist!
